Bega Kwa Bega Tanzanian Partnership
Bega Kwa Bega
(Standing Shoulder To SHoulder)
For more than twenty years, Christ Lutheran has been nurtured by a partnership with a sister parish in Tanzania. Bega Kwa Bega is the phrase we use to describe this relationship of the Saint Paul Area Synod with the Iringa Diocese of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in Tanzania (ELCT). In English, the phrase means ‘shoulder to shoulder’, describing the way in which we accompany one another in a spirit of mutuality, inclusivity, and vulnerability.
At its heart Bega Kwa Bega includes the shared practices of prayer, presence, and projects.
We pray regularly for our companions in the Ugesa parish, visit occasionally to share our presence, and support a multitude of projects (including funding scholarships for students) to further the ministry of God’s ongoing mission in both Tanzania and America.
