Important Update Regarding the Hugo Shelter
The Saint Andrew's Family Shelter in Hugo will close as of September 26, 2025. Volunteers will not be needed after that date.
Here is the explanation: The Community Resource Center (CRC) at Saint Andrew's will continue to provide emergency housing and social services for families but will now use sites throughout Washington County such as hotels, single family home rentals, and apartments. After relocating the emergency housing program from the Hugo house, the CRC will adapt the house to accommodate families who are transitioning out of the emergency housing program.
The Hugo Family Shelter opened seven years ago to help fill a need that was unmet in our community. It has depended on monetary, material, and volunteer support from Saint Andrew's, area churches, and community members. It has adapted to changing needs and found creative ways to continue to serve families, even during the pandemic. This new model will allow the CRC to put families in more independent living situations and thus will no longer require volunteer overnight or dinner hosts after September 26.
Thank you for stepping up with love and generosity to help families in their time of need. If you would like to help with the ongoing work of the CRC, you can find their website here. Plans for a "send off" celebration are underway. Details will be shared when available.
As always, thanks for all you have done to support the work of the Hugo Family Shelter. I am so grateful that this important work will continue, just in a new format.
